Position Summary

The Design Engineering Manager is accountable for the daily order processing, design, and general functional support through our switchgear engineering staff located in our North American Manufacturing facilities. This role will be tasked with improving the quality and lead time reductions through resource management and continued improvement of the design and order release processes. This position will require strong communication skills along with the ability to work closely with their functional peers and team members to provide leadership and quality products that may be manufactured within all G&W facilities.

Manage a team of 4 direct & 25 indirect reports
Hold team accountable to maintaining alignment with industry standards (IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL, NEMA, etc.)
Identify gaps in existing engineering design standards and work with Engineering staff to resolve those gaps
Provide project and schedule oversight, along with other departmental support as needed using global tools created (Smartsheet, JDE, Tacton, etc.)
Maintain departmental accountability to align with company goals through development of team metrics
Mentor and maintain aptitude and quality across engineering team
Be a change agent in department and company by identifying and resolving root causes through problem solving activities
Lead, own, and delegate tasks to provide support for internal and external customers
Facilitate cross-functional communication and drive value stream thinking and general improvement initiatives for the entire engineering order process
Drive strategic company initiatives through coordinating support, supplying communication, strengthening peer relationships, and nurturing innovation
Be a vector for dispersion and hold accountability regarding key initiatives, new project assignments, and targeted opportunities for improvement

Required Experience

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
5 years of experience in technical management with continuous improvement mindset to improve office lead time and quality improvements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and has demonstrated presentation skills to diverse audiences
Strong problem-solving skills
