About the role:

The Head of Total Rewardsplays a key role in ensuring alignment of the company’s total rewards programs with Akumin’s new strategy, priorities, and talent philosophy. Reporting to the CHRO, this role has responsibility for the total rewards strategy, as well as the design, implementation, and on-going administration of Akumin’s core compensation and benefits programs. You will be a high impact HR Operations function to centralize support for all employees.

You will work closely with the CHRO, Executive Leadership Team including the General Counsel and CFO, and the Board of Director as well as with cross-functional teams and HR colleagues across the organization to implement these solutions and drive real benefit to Akumin.

This leader will be responsible for enhancing the Compensation and Benefits foundation to reinforce the business goals during a period of continued rapid growth and change. This leader will be accountable for building a strong organizational strategy that enables the Total Rewards function to build scalable solutions that enable managers and HR to make good, informed compensation and benefit decisions. Keeping abreast of market trends, the leader will proactively create compensation and benefit strategies and programs and execute them, ensuring Akumin successfully attracts, engages and retains talent.

About you:

The ideal candidate is recognized as an experienced Total Rewards professional. You have hands-on experience developing differentiated Total Rewards strategies, as well as leading the delivery of a comprehensive compensation suite of programs including annual compensation and cycles, you bring related technical expertise in supporting benchmarks, regulations, and systems. You also have technical expertise in related HR systems and have ideally successfully administered Total Rewards programs on the Workday platform. You are known for strong team and project leadership with a focus on results that ensure timely, high quality and high impact implementation. You enjoy building relationships and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve Total Rewards objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement a comprehensive and competitive compensation and benefit strategy and all related programs that aligns employee rewards with Akumin’s corporate values and enables the organization to attract, reward, and retain talent
Recognizing the different needs of the employee population, create programs that meet each employee groups’ needs
Help drive strategic and tactical approaches to compensations including sales compensation, and base compensation
Execute the annual salary, bonus, long-term incentive, and merit planning processes in alignment with the performance management program goals
Lead benefits program and plan design, communications, and annual enrollment and design and execute related systems to ensure on-going administration
Create a rewards and recognition program to motivate and drive the right results and behaviors
Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Total Rewards team
Act as the primary source of Total Rewards at Akumin; partner effectively with business and across HR to share expertise in the context of business opportunities, related HR trends, and organizational objectives
Play a critical role coaching the HR community and Akumin leaders on total rewards topics
As a strong people leader, bring out the best in the team but coaching, mentoring, and developing each person
Work closely with the CHRO on compensation analyses, program design and preparation of materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors
Set and oversee Akumin’s annual compensation cycle including design of review templates, manager/employee communication and training of process and end-to-end process management
Work closely with the Talent Acquisition team in the development of market-competitive compensation packages that enable Akumin to attract high caliber talent while managing internal equity
Create or enhance and implement all aspects of the total rewards function that results in effective and efficient management of programs and partners (i.e., negotiate favorable renewals, manage open enrollment processes, robust employee communication plans, wellness, and health education initiatives, etc.)
Collaborate with external benefit and compensation advisors to stay abreast of emerging trends and proactively put forward recommendations that enable Akumin to be competitive and resourceful in our total rewards investments
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining a proactive approach with new and anticipated changes to legislation and regulation, which may impact organizational processes and objectives
Develop and deliver communications in partnership with Internal Communications that help employees understand and appreciate the value of their total compensation, inclusive of compensation, base, bonus, and programs

Professional Experience:

12+ years of experience in progressively responsible management positions in Total Rewards roles
Experience in a rapidly changing, high growth company is required
Must have experience in compensation design and execution (broad based, variable and sales), and preparation of Compensation Committee materials
Prior experience building compensation frameworks and leverage external benchmarking is required
Sales compensation design experience is highly desire
Prefer prior experience leading Total Rewards for a company
Experience with Workday is required
Proven ability to use data to monitor progress and make necessary course corrections
Prior experience leading HR projects (e.g., system implementations, compensation, and benefits cycles, etc.) with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to complete a broad range of related action items
Understanding of tax requirements as well as all other government regulations that apply to compensation base and incentive compensation is highly desired
Private company experience as it relates to equity programs is desired.
A track record for success building and advancing multiple initiatives in a fast paced and rapidly changing business environment
Demonstrated ability to manage across a portfolio of compensation and benefit programs
Able to build differentiated programs for different employee populations while maintaining equity
Extensive financial and analytical skills with advanced working knowledge of HR systems
Strong knowledge of compensation and benefit principles, tools, trends and best practices
Healthcare experience desired but not required
Experience with a large non-exempt population is highly desired
Bachelor’s degree required
