Job Description:

To provide leadership and subject matter expertise to Intermountain Healthcare staff and leaders, as part of Intermountain Healthcare's ongoing efforts to reduce operating, and capital costs in its physical plants across Utah and Idaho. This position supports the Corporate Energy Management Program as directed by the Manager of the Energy Management Program, or senior engineers from the Energy Management Department. They provide energy, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls expertise on new construction and existing buildings. The position assists Hospital Administrators, Hospital Facility Engineers, Medical Group Operations Directors, and other Intermountain Healthcare personnel undertaking building construction and maintenance activities. This position interfaces with outside architects, engineers, programmers, vendors, building officials, etc. as a representative of the Intermountain Healthcare, Energy Management Department.

Scope

This is a system-wide role, assigned to work on moderate to complex projects throughout the Intermountain system. This role works closely with both the Facility Management, and the Facility Planning and Development Departments. This position reports to the Manager, or a senior engineer of the Corporate Energy Management Program.

Job Essentials

Provides independent project management of mid-size projects, or large-size projects under the direction of senior team members.
Develops project level strategy and direction.
Mentors other team members to increase their skill and knowledge.
Handles most aspects of energy/facility project management including: budgeting, procurement, implementation, verification, and utility incentives
May directly manage others on the energy team.
Develops and utilizes standard metrics to assess the effectiveness of energy and water conservation efforts.
Works collaboratively with design engineers, project managers, and commissioning agents to implement projects, strategies, and promote energy optimization measures.
Teaches and trains facility management staff and leaders the principles of energy conservation and management, and the effect of proper maintenance procedures on energy consumption and equipment life.
Supports Facility Planning and Development (FP&D) and Facility Management (FM) by:
Creating standards and guidelines related to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
Ensuring adherence to standards and guidelines.
Reviewing design documents from consulting design teams.
Commissioning and construction review of projects.
Stays abreast of best practices, new technologies, market dynamics, and trends, and acts as a subject matter expert and resource to others, advising on best practices and process improvement.
Works to implement energy efficient design and optimization strategies that protect Intermountain assets and operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven years of applicable experience in facility management, energy management, or construction.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Math, or Science Discipline, plus a P.E. license and three years of applicable experience in facility management, energy management, construction, or consulting engineering.

Master's Degree in Engineering, Math, or Science Discipline, plus a P.E. license.

- or -

PhD Degree in Engineering, Math, or Science Discipline. Note: Eduation must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural drawings and plans.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment, including but not limited to: boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling equipment, and other terminal HVAC devices.
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to summarize complex, technical issues in a concise manner for decision makers.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities with many internal customers.
Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, and scheduling applications
Willingness and availability to travel throughout the Intermountain system as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Designation
Certified Hospital Facility Manager (CHFM) Designation
Certified Commissioning Agent (CxA) Designation
