Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection (“OCP”) is responsible for enforcing consumer protection laws (Chapter 11 of the Montgomery County code) which prohibit unfair and deceptive business acts to ensure a fair marketplace for consumers and businesses. OCP also licenses and registers specific business activities.

Job Description

OCP is seeking an Executive Administrative Aide to provide exceptional administrative support to OCP’s Director by performing a variety of interrelated administrative duties. This position provides direct public service and assistance and serves as the department’s “Patient Advocate”. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Director’s office operates efficiently and effectively. The primary duties include:

Assisting the Director by drafting and preparing correspondence, reports, and presentations.
Coordinating and managing the Director’s schedule, including arranging meetings and appointments.
Serving as the Director’s gatekeeper, screening and prioritizing communications and requests directed to the Director.
Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
Conducting research and compiling data to support the Director in decision-making processes.
Representing the Director in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
Responding to inquiries from the public regarding OCP’s programs and services.
Serving as OCP’s “Patient Advocate”, which requires responding to EMS billing related requests, answering questions related to EMS billing, and serving as a liaison between EMS and the Department of Fire and Rescue Service.
Assisting the Department’s management with data collection and other operational matters.
Providing staff support on the Director’s designated task forces and developing and distributing agendas, meeting minutes, and supporting documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certification of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Experience: Five (5) or more years of administrative aide experience.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria

Proven experience providing administrative support to senior executives, directors, or administrators.
Strong writing skills with the ability to draft professional correspondences and documents.
Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate needs and initiate actions without constant supervision.
Demonstrated passion for supporting high level decision makers and understanding the impact of effective administrative support on organizational success.
Advanced and proficient use and understanding of modern office equipment and software (example: advanced expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams).
Experience providing efficient and effective customer service, including responding to inquires both written and orally.
