Job Summary

Under the Supervision of the Cash Posting Manager and Cash Posting Supervisor, the Posting Specialist is responsible for accurate electronic and manual posting of payments, adjustments, and remittances from all payers. This position is responsible for receiving deposits, accuracy in reconciliation of insurance payments, patient payments, and the posting of payments into patient accounts.

Responsibilities

Payment posting and reconciliation of daily deposits with a heavy focus on quality and accuracy.
EFT and Manual Posting of EOB's.
Able to research and determine what a true credit or refund is and to who it should be refunded to either insurance or patient.

Essential Functions

Responsible for reviewing accounts in a credit balance whether in a work queue, from a worklist, or other method to determine and perform the appropriate actions needed to resolve the account. Actions could involve, but are not limited to, verifying the accuracy of the expected reimbursement calculation, the contractual adjustment, the manual adjustments, and the payments posted on the account. Credits may be either patient or insurance related for both hospital and physician accounts. If a refund is required, this position will perform the appropriate steps in the billing system to generate the refund. Additionally, identifies trends, determines root causes for credits, and works with the appropriate parties to optimize the system and minimize false credits.
Various Accounting duties.
Special projects and assignments as needed.
Ensure departmental compliance with HIPAA guidelines, HR policies, and other corporate initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum 2-3 years of medical insurance posting experience.
Client Centricity or Epic experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a self-starter who is dependable and reliable.
Ability to work effectively with leaders, teams, and independently.
Able to perform simple mathematical calculations.
Knowledge of payer contract & government reimbursement rules and skilled in using applications for processing payments/denial correspondence.
Detail-oriented and well-organized, able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Skilled in using computer applications for payment posting and an understanding of A/R follow up.
Team player being supportive of Department and Company goals, policies, and HIPAA compliance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Advanced understanding of payment methodology for both Hospital and Physician services.
An understanding of Revenue Codes, DRG, APC, CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and CDT.
An understanding of contract terms and payer policy.
Clear understanding of the impact payment applications and refund/credit processing has on Revenue Cycle operations and financial performance.
Ability to work independently; prioritize work and results-oriented.
Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and to effectively anticipate and respond to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment.
