The Opportunity / Who We Seek

We are looking for an accomplished Attorney to join the MaplesFS in-house legal department in Boston. The Attorney reports to the Assistant General Counsel in the Cayman Islands (the "AGC") and in her absence reports to the MaplesFS General Counsel in our Boston office (the "GC").

As part of our Boston team you will:

generating, reviewing and negotiating client contracts for various Maples Group entities globally;
acting as the primary point of contact with Maples business professionals across the global business in connection with the drafting and negotiation of client contracts and other documents;
reviewing client comments to documents and ensuring prompt response to clients including production of revised drafts;
advising Maples business professionals regarding issued arising in the ordinary course of provision of services to clients;
reviewing and negotiating vendor contracts and other third party service agreements to be entered into by the Maples group;
conducting legal research regarding new developments and regulatory issues related to the business;
staying appraised of regulatory developments in jurisdictions relevant to Maples' business;
drafting and updating MaplesFS Group precedent documents and internal agreements;
assist with various projects and initiatives; and
performing additional functions as required by the GC or AGC.

What You Bring

In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:

The successful candidate should:

be a law school graduate with an excellent academic background;
be qualified to practice law (or eligible for a corporate counsel exemption) in the State of Massachusetts;
have at least 3 years’ of experience in corporate law with a recognised law firm or as in-house counsel, preferably with experience relating to investment funds and/or structured finance transactions;
have demonstrable knowledge of legal contracts and have experience with drafting, reviewing and responding to comments to contracts, leading negotiations and successfully closing transactions;
be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines; and
have a careful eye and pay attention to details, have the ability to critically review documents and catch/correct mistakes, typos and grammatical errors.

The ability to work collaboratively with teammates and with others across the organisation is required. Key skills for this role are as follows:

superb attention to detail, professionalism, excellent organizational skills, and a team-first mentality;
be a self-starter with the ability to handle a complex and diverse workload;
strong drafting, critical thinking and communication skills;
sound working knowledge of all Windows applications;
experience with relationship management and client service; and
excellent time management, organizational, prioritization and communication skills, both verbal and written (fluent written and oral English).

The successful candidate must be able to use his/her own initiative, work well under pressure to meet deadlines and be able to maintain confidentiality at all times. The Successful candidate may be required to work extended hours on short notice and occasionally on weekends.
