Biological Data Scientist - Remote

Rancho Biosciences is seeking a Biological Data Scientist who will be responsible for the examination and analysis of biological data, production of Conceptual and Logical data models based on the analysis, determining what, if any, harmonization is needed for current ETL pipelines to best fit target models, and relaying information regarding the models' use to clients. A strong background in data analysis and governance (including data infrastructure design), clinical data reporting standards such as OMOP and FHIR, and multi-omics data structures and analysis models will be needed.

Key Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Examine and analyze data files with client(s) to determine what and how a novel data structure needs to operate and accomplish
Determine how a client's current ETL and/or analysis pipelines can fit into the proposed models, and provide harmonization recommendations when needed
Write and maintain clear and concise documentation broadly describing the data's sources, use cases, and decisions made to generate models
Stay up-to-date with best practices in the field, such as leveraging controlled vocabulary from ontologies for data dictionaries when needed
Collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders to understand their data-related needs.
Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues and maintain data quality and integrity in the databases made.
Collaborate with other team members and cross-functional teams to support various data-related projects, and contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering processes and best practices.

The Qualified Candidate Must Have:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, biology, or a related field.
Strong experience in data modeling and designing database structures for biological data.
Proven experience with clinical data standards such as OMOP or FHIR, and multi-omics data
Knowledge of and experience leveraging biological clinical and pre-clinical ontologies for standardization and vocabulary control
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and adapt to changing priorities and technologies in a fast-paced environment
Excellence in managing scientific stakeholder relationships
Experience translating project requirements to both business process solutions and technical solutions
Independently driven, hardworking, and committed
Able to communicate effectively at all levels
Detail-oriented and well organized, with an ability to work collaboratively and remotely
